In Case You Missed It: G.C. Executive Committee Rolls Out Fall 2020 Initiatives

Enabling Chapters to Meet "Virtually" -

COVID-19 measures will prevent many of our Chapters from readily, safely, or lawfully convening in-person meetings this fall. But Chapter By-laws as they stand don't allow Chapters to vote or take other essential actions by any means other than by convening an in-person meeting. Specifically, a Chapter that cannot meet in-person cannot fix the problem on its own because it would have to meet in-person in order to amend its Chapter By-laws. To provide Chapters a way around this Catch-22, the Executive Committee is launching an "Emergency By-law" initiative giving each Chapter the option to convene a virtual meeting in order to add an Emergency By-law provision allowing informal business meetings by means of remote communication equipment. No secret or confidential matters are permitted to be included or referred to in any virtual Chapter meetings.

The H.D. and H.S. will be convening Zoom calls on Saturday and Sunday, August 22 and 23 to discuss details with Chapter leaders in order to get their feedback before finalizing the documents and process for the Emergency By-law initiative.

Re-imagining the Annual September Leadership Conference -

"How to keep Chapters going through the age of COVID-19" is the critical organizing challenge facing our Chapter and Graduate Organization leaders. We cannot convene our September "1-2-3" Leadership Conference in-person this year, so we are organizing a program of virtual conferences. These conferences will include Graduate Organization leaders along with Chapter 1-2-3s, and because costs and logistical challenges can be greatly eased in a virtual setting, we will be able to invite other Chapter leaders to attend as well. The program is being developed by a committee headed by Excellent Sister Tildy Davidson and will provide information, suggestions, and resources from national leadership. Perhaps most importantly, the program will provide Chapter leaders and Graduate Organization leaders timely forums to discuss issues and weigh alternatives.
